It makes no difference which operating system you’re using to transfer files from one computer to another. You can transfer from Windows to a Mac, etc.
How it works
Can I trigger a backup immediately?
As soon as you connect to the Internet, PutPlace will backup new or modified files. If you don’t want want PutPlace to automatically backup your files, disable PutPlace and then turn it back on when you’re ready to upload.
Can I cancel an upload, or restore one that has already started?
Yes, you can cancel an upload and re-start it for another time. Here’s how. In the client window, go to PutPlace > Stop Uploading. Go to PutPlace > Start Uploading when you are ready to start again.
What happens if a backup or upload is interrupted?
Interruptions can occur, especially if you’re uploading a lot of data, big files or have a slow connection. No problem. If you experience an interruption, PutPlace will start up again where it left off once you’re reconnected. No more going back to square one when your system hangs, or a connection breaks.
Can I set parameters around the types of files I want PutPlace to backup, or ignore?
You can use the File > Settings option in the PutPlace client to set filters that will select or ignore certain file types and folders. Then select a folder, but de-select the files within that folder that you don’t want to backup.
What happens if my broadband connection fails?
If your connection goes down, PutPlace will remember where it was in the upload/download process and will start back at that point when you reconnect. PutPlace will automatically pick up where it left off. You don’t have to wait around watching while your PC uploads massive files. With PutPlace you just set-and-forget your backup - we do the rest.
Can I run more than one instance of PutPlace on my computer?
You can backup multiple PutPlace accounts from one computer using one instance of PutPlace. You will need to set-up two PutPlace accounts with separate user names and passwords, but you only need to install the PutPlace desktop software once. The client can upload to separate accounts, when you log in with different user names and passwords.
Remember that with PutPlace, you can have mutiple computers on the same account - so you have all of your data safely backed up and stored in one place.
Does PutPlace always run in the background on my computer? What happens when I log on and off?
PutPlace runs automatically and continuously unless you deliberately turn it off. You can turn PutPlace off by right clicking the PutPlace icon (bottom right hand side of your screen) and then clicking Exit.
You can do this to avoid heavy broadband traffic. For example, if you are downloading a large file and also working on data that PutPlace is automatically backing up, you may wish to postpone your backup so that the download finishes more quickly.
Don’t forget to turn PutPlace on again if you want to have continuous backup of your new and modified content.
